Manimahesh Lake (also known as Dal Lake, Manimahesh) is a high altitude lake
situated close to the Manimahesh Kailash Peak in the Pir Panjal Range of
the Himalayas, in the Bharmour subdivision of Chamba district of the Indian
state of Himachal Pradesh. The religious significance of this lake is next to that of
the Lake Manasarovar in Tibet.
The lake is the venue of a highly revered pilgrimage trek undertaken during the
month of August/September corresponding to the month of Bhadon according
to Hindu calendar, on the eighth day of the New Moon period. It is known as the
‘Manimahesh Yatra’. The Government of Himachal Pradesh has declared it as a statelevel pilgrimage.

How to visit :-
To visit Manimahesh Lake, follow these steps:
1. *Reach Chamba or Bharmour*:
– Travel to Chamba or Bharmour by bus or taxi from major cities like Pathankot, which is the nearest railway station.
2. *Travel to Hadsar*:
– From Bharmour, take a bus or taxi to Hadsar, which is the starting point of the trek to Manimahesh Lake. It’s about a 13 km drive.
3. *Trek to Manimahesh Lake*:
– From Hadsar, start the trek to Manimahesh Lake. The trek is about 13 km long and can be completed in 2-3 days depending on your pace.
– The first halt is usually at Dhancho, which is about 6 km from Hadsar.
– Continue the trek from Dhancho to Manimahesh Lake.
During the Manimahesh Yatra, there are facilities and camps set up for pilgrims along the trek route. It’s advisable to be physically prepared for the trek and carry essential items like warm clothing, trekking gear, and sufficient food and water.
